100 Things about Me
1. I was born in Orange Park, Florida, which is where I live now.
2. I’ve also lived in Jacksonville, Florida, a whole few minutes away.
3. I’ve never lived anywhere other than northeast Florida.

7. We’re still ridiculously happily married today.
8. We also have a daughter.
9. My parents are still happily married too.
10. As were both sets of grandparents, until death parted them.
11. My dad’s mom is my only living grandparent.
12. She is an incredible oil painter, favoring both landscapes and portraits.
13. She also plays the organ.
14. My son plays the piano.
15. He is going to a high school of the arts.
16. Creativity is in my blood.
17. My dad is a master luthier, and has built Fender style guitars for some famous people.
18. I’ve met John Stamos, Rob Lowe, and Lynyrd Skynyrd.
19. My great grandmom lived across the street from the VanZant family of Skynyrd.
20. My dad’s family is German and from New Jersey, my mom’s is Italian and from Missouri.
21. I also have a little bit of French in me.
22. My last name is French-Canadian.
23. My husband, Pierre, was born in Canada, and moved here when he was 2.
24. My father in law owns a bed and breakfast in Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec.
25. It’s a French-speaking town.
26. Neither husband nor I speak French.
27. I took French in high school. I doodled “I love Pierre Bellehumer” on my notebook. My French teacher corrected it to “Bellehumeur”. She was right.
28. People usually cannot pronounce Bellehumeur. It’s Bell-hue-mare (English), or Be-loo-murr (French). We pronounce it the English way.
29. We argued the first year of our marriage on the correct way to pronounce it. I put a husky rasp on the h. He hated that, and broke me of the habit.
30. Other than that, I’m usually right.
31. I have taught myself how to do almost everything I’m good at (using books and the web). Including drawing and graphic art, HTML and CSS, knitting, spinning, crocheting, soapmaking and other miscellaneous crafts.
32. I got glasses for the first time in my life in Feb ’06.
33. I can not stand even the slightest smudge on my glasses.
34. I’ve watched Days of Our Lives for over 15 years.
35. I first chatted online using PowWow by Tribal Voice in 1994. It was one of the very first online chat programs.
36. I still have my original 6 digit ICQ number, although I never use it.
37. I never, or very, very, very rarely chat online other than messages on forums.
38. I’m not a very chatty person. I like quiet and to be alone with my thoughts.
39. I hate when someone eats while on the phone. Pierre knows this, but does it anyway.
40. I call Pierre at least once every day, just to say hi.
41. He kisses me goodbye when he leaves, and hello when he gets home, everyday.
42. He works as a locksmith. Our best friend owns the company, and my mom is the office manager. Almost everyone that works there is a close personal friend or family member of someone else there.
43. The only time I’ve ever been in an airplane was when I rode in the cockpit of the plane that Pierre jumped out of. (Not true anymore.)
44. We have 2 inside cats (Scout & Rumor), 2 outside cats (Turtle & Jet), and a Red Tailed Boa named Saphira.
45. I hold Saphira often and without fear. I also feed her (previously frozen rats) and clean her 24 sq ft tank.
46. While growing up, my dad had pet tarantulas. I held them too.
47. I love dogs, but do not own a dog right now.
48. I love animals, but I am not a vegetarian. I respect and admire those of you who are. Especially when for ethical reasons. But I ask you to respect me and my choices as well.
49. I believe we have canine teeth because we are meant to eat meat.
50. I believe that gays and lesbians have every right to live, love and marry just like straight people do. Your sexual preference has absolutely no bearing on my opinion of you.
51. I am a very open-minded person and respect a persons right to live however they want to, so long as you do not hurt another person in doing so. And no, gay marriage does not hurt the sanctity of my own marriage.
52. I pity those who put down others based on their personal beliefs, and I can not respect those who attempt to force their beliefs on others. Particularly vicious PETA members and bible thumpers.
53. I am adamant about teaching my kids to love and respect others regardless of sex, race, religion, disability, sexuality, how they look, or how they dress.
54. I was raised as a Jehovah’s Witness until I was 13 years old when my parents had had enough, and we celebrated Christmas for the first time.
55. I am an Atheist, and no that doesn’t mean I’m a Satanist. I don’t believe in Satan either.
56. My first, and only birthday party ever was on my 30th. It was a 2 day long party with much drinking and puking. Pierre stayed up almost all night driving people home who were too drunk to drive.
57. Several people had to call in sick on Monday because they were still drunk.
58. I have never gotten so drunk that I forgot what happened. I get sick or fall asleep first.
59. I have gotten “shit faced” less than 10 times in my life. And I rarely drink at all.
60. I am a light drunk. I will get a buzz on half a beer, or less.
61. I do not like feeling stoned or drunk. A light alcohol buzz is good though.
62. I didn’t try pot until I was 25 years old, I’ve only done it 2 more times since, and it is the only illegal drug I’ve ever done.
63. I don’t care if you drink or do drugs, as long as you’re responsible about it. My husband drives for a living. Please, do not drive drunk or stoned.
64. Pierre also rides a motorcycle. There is no helmet law in Florida, but we wear our helmets anyway. Because accidents happen.
65. Pierre crashed his bike once, ramming it into the back of a stopped car in interstate traffic. He totalled the bike, but only sustained a scraped knee.
66. He has also fallen asleep at the wheel and rolled a car (and only scraped his finger up), been held up at gunpoint twice (as a convenience store clerk), and stopped at a steady green light for no apparent reason and avoided getting creamed by a truck that ran a red light in dense fog.
67. We believe he has a guardian angel. Pierre has him tattooed on his back.
68. I have 6 tattoos. My largest, a tribal across my back took 3 hours to complete.
69. I think I have a pretty high tolerance for pain.
70. I am an organ donor. I want them to take anything and everything they can if it will help or save someone else.
71. I quit smoking on October 5th, 2005. It was my 4th time quitting. First time was because I was pregnant. Second time, pregnant again. Third, to save money. This time I quit just because I didn’t want to smoke anymore. Because of that, this was my easiest quit, and I’m confident I will never smoke again.
72. I don’t care if someone doesn’t like me. There are people I don’t like too.
73. I love my sister and talk to her almost every day even though she lives in Atlanta.
74. I am a geek at heart. I can troubleshoot (most of) my own computer problems, and disassemble, clean/repair and reassemble my own CPU.
75. I’m also a bit of a nerd. I love science and all kinds of science toys. I love to look at anything through a microscope from a bug, to a dollar bill to an old band-aid.
76. I drive a 2000 white Ford F-150 longbed/extended cab truck, and it is MY truck. Not my husbands. It says “Strong enough for a man, but made for a woman” on the back window.
77. I love my truck but I don’t really like to drive.
78. My truck was my 11th wedding anniversary gift from Pierre.

82. I would rather explore the USA and Canada than travel overseas.
83. I would rather go to a theme park than a tropical island.
84. Pierre and I went to Disney World for our honeymoon.
85. I’ve ridden every roller coaster in Florida that I know of.
86. Pierre and I went to SeaWorld one year for our anniversary. We rode The Kraken roller coaster 22 times that day.
87. We went to Universal Studios more than 20 times between February ’05 and April ’06. We had year passes.
88. I want passes to Busch Gardens next.
89. My grandpa used to work for the Anheuser-Busch brewery in Jacksonville, FL. Every year he would get tickets to Busch Gardens Tampa and we would all go together. Thats what bred my love for themeparks.
90. I’ve had my domain name “cometosilver.com” since 1998. It comes from a Danzig song, “Come To Silver”, and was chosen and registered for me by a friend.
91. I’ve had a website since 1995. My first site was at Geocities.com, when it was new, fun and not yet owned by Yahoo. My address was geocities.com/heartland/plains/3705.
92. My site has always been named “Silver’s Place”, from day one, and probably always will.
93. I remember the internet before popup or banner ads.
94. I love to read, but I can not stand wasting time by just reading.
95. I listen to audiobooks while I multi-task.
96. I can not only sit and watch tv, I have to do something else too. Like spinning, knitting, or cleaning house. Unless I’m watching a movie.
97. If I hold a small piece of paper, like a receipt or post-it note, I will unconsciously fold it into some origami shape.
98. Sushi is my favorite food. Tuna sashimi particularly. Pierre and I have “sushi night” every Wednesday, when the kids go out to dinner with their Papa.
99. I am a morning person. Bright eyed and bushy tailed when I get up at 6am. I drink coffee because I like it, not because I need it
100. I like good coffee, a moderately strong brew, lots of with 2% milk and sweetener (Equal or Splenda).

I have just spent the past two hours on your site. I had such a great time. Even though I am about 20 yrs older than you, I can’t believe how much we have in common. Your 100 things list, I matched about 75% of your entries. When I have more time I’ll send you my replies so you can compare. Now, how did I find your site…well I posted a question about my husband making my spinning wheel and you posted a reply. I just followed the trail and got lost in your site. LOL I loved your NY pictures, I’ve got to go two times and really want to go back again. The WTC pictures really got to me again. I still have a bad time with that , just can’t believe it happened. I bookmarked your site so I won’t loose it. I am going to go ball a hank of yarn and start another project. I have startitis, this is #6 on the needles. I really want that blue wool you have but I better wait for another payday. Take care, Sherri
New Knitting Website
Hello Silver,
As you may know, there is a new site about knitting
(members.lycos.nl/breimetplezier); this is a site I own.
To this site your website is also added.
I would really appreciate it if you would add
my URL to the links on your site.
The logo I can E-mail to you or you can copy it from my site.
Thank you very much,
Ineke
I love you site… this year, I will finish that sock!

I don’t speak french, either. Ha!
nice to meet you!
I stumbled across your site while looking for other Floridians living in Utah (you came up because of your cross country trip)
I really enjoyed browsing your site and hope that you will take a moment to look at ours.
I grew up in Orange Park, Graduated from OPHS in 1996. We moved to Utah in September 2006.
I don’t speak french (fluently anyway…), but husband is French from France!
Karen
Silver,
Just stumbled on your site from Shuttlepilot. I ended up staying a little longer because of a: different look and feel of site and b: you are also a fibre enthousiast.
I am a fibre artist, have been working with fibres (spin/weave/dye/felt/beads for a few decades now. Since upgrading to high speed internet, I have spent many hours trying to catch up with the techno talk and the depth of information available out there. Living in rural Northern Ontario for many years now, access to the web has been limited to very, very slow dial up.. So, now, for me, it is discovery time…
I eventually intend to get a web site going, at least I figured out on getting a domain name, “fleurdefibre” and, yes, I do speak and write French. I am originally from “La Belle Province” i.e. Quebec, from a town called Joliette.
And I can pronounce Bellehumeur, which in English translates into “Good Humour”!
Many people living in Northern Ontario, tend to have families and friends from the region of Rouyn-Noranda.
Reading your list of “100 things to know about y” was refreshing, and I find myself sharing lots of the same outlook and values, except that I am a few years older… however, this is just a number…
I love working in silence for most parts of the day…. but still a news junky in the morning.
Lots of what I have done over the years is self taught or a combination of formal learning with self directed experiments.. I guess I tend to learn by doing it, meaning it often ends up learning the hard way..
Anyhow, I just thought of leaving you this little comment, without much expectations, with much appreciation and inspiration for little ole me!
Mireille (fleurdefibre)
